The funny thing about big brothers is that they know the exact moment when to teach younger siblings to do the things that Mommy and Daddy are dreading most, and when Mommy and Daddy have the least amount of time to address it. I don't think it's a coincidence, I think it's a conspiracy! Let me explain.

On Sunday, Kimberly and I were at K-Mart doing some routine shopping. She was pleading with me to buy things, and I was fending her off with retorts of "we don't really need it", "it can wait" and "I don't think Obama's stimulus package will cover this." However, the one thing she made an especially strong push for was to get the twins toddler beds. I adamantly refused. I pointed out that the kids have NEVER escaped the confines of the cribs, neither of us have time to work on keeping them in the beds, and there are a million other things we can do with the money right now. Kimberly relented and agreed to wait until her college was on Spring break.

Then, yesterday, morning when the twins woke up I went to their room to retrieve them, but Matthew had beaten me there. He was giving Kyle detailed escape plans on how to scale the wall and find freedom. Before Kyle could test out his brother's advice I seized all three kids, descended the staircase and filled them with so much chocolate milk all memories of an escape plan surely would have drowned from their minds.
Later that day I came home half day and Kimberly was just getting ready to put Kyle, Mallory and Cole (our two-year-old nephew) down for a nap. Within seconds of leaving the room, we heard footsteps and discovered Kyle had escaped his crib and was smiling down from the top of the steps. When we went back upstairs, he had already made his way into Mallory's crib and was instructing her on her dismount. We put Kyle back in the crib and left again. When we heard another noise, we went back upstairs and Kyle was now in the playpen with Cole. For a third time, we put Kyle back in his crib and left. Of course we heard more noises and investigated, only to discover Kyle and Mallory both out of their cribs. We never got them to stay in their cribs and last night Kimberly only got about 14 and a half minutes of sleep because of our two escapees and their mischief.

Today we went to Babies-r-us and bought a toddler bed. We came home and took Matthew's old Toddler bed out of storage. Kimberly assembled everything and surprised the kids with their new big kid beds. They both loved the beds. Mallory fell asleep in her bed with very little resistance. Kyle, on the other hand, fought tooth and nail. After about half an hour, he couldn't resist the sandman and sailed off into LaLa land. So far this evening, Kyle has fallen out of his bed once, but didn't wake up and we were able to put him right back into his bed.

Big brothers don't care about Mom or Dad's schedules, their stress levels or their willingness to commit to new projects OR maybe Matthew knew exactly what he was doing, and decided he was going to flex his big brother muscles and have his minions torture us. Knowing Matthew's genius and desire to demonstrate his authority, I suspect he orchestrated the whole devilish plot specifically to torment us and overthrow the parental regime! Matthew has been learning about dinosaurs in school and Kyle just loves them! So we decided to head off to a museum. The kids had a blast! The boys both had the same favorite parts, T-REX, of course! Mallory didn't really have a favorite part. She enjoyed the museum but given her choice, she probably would have rather been having tea with some princesses somewhere. Matthew learned a lot about dinosaurs today, mostly the shocker of the lifelike size. He couldn't believe they were that big!The Huling Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01501100466552626681noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5569110583125344574.post-35152514021606023702009-01-19T17:31:00.001-08:002009-01-19T17:34:36.035-08:00Last day of indoor Soccer!
Matthew was sad for it to come to an end. Then we all got dressed and went to the hospital to visit Mallory and take her some presents. She was very happy with her gifts, as you can see in the photos. When I had to take the boys home on Christmas day, and Mallory had to stay at the hospital it was a tough scene. Matthew and Mallory clung to each other. Both were crying. Mallory just kept saying "home, home" and Matthew didn't want to leave her there. It was heartbreaking. A few hours late Mallory was released from the hospital and we had a great Christmas dinner together at Uncle Freddy and Aunt Niecey's house. Me and Kimmie would not have asked for a better Christmas present than to have our entire family together. The Huling Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01501100466552626681noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5569110583125344574.post-3430711718750850752008-12-21T20:05:00.000-08:002008-12-21T20:32:59.832-08:00Ditching the Coal ...No MISTLETOE ... He is a perfect blend of me and Kim ... and at the same time a perfect blend of Kyle and Mallory. He is loving and sweet, crazy and unpredictable, and curious and independent. He gives me a run for my money, but he brings me unmatched joy.

The second is Mallory. She is the perfect little girl. She is sweet and loving. She makes my heart flutter with every "Dada" and every tear. There is no woman in my life more perfect than my precious buttercup.

Third, Kyle is the bear - in every sense of the word. He is cuddly and gentle, but also burly and rough. He gives great bear hugs, and has quickly become the family joke-ster. He is the
"little-Matthew" of the house and does everything his big brother does.

Finally, but not the least, my wife Kimberly is a key ingredient in my motivation for life. She keeps the family together and united. She keeps me focused on my family and my goals. She is a friend when I am frustrated, depressed, angry, or sad. She knows when to give me space and when to embrace me. Kimberly is a great mother, and a great wife.

My family is my focus, my passion and my life. I appreciate them everyday, and think about them every minute. Kimberly and I went to Megan and Franco's wedding. It was unbelievably humid, and there was a brief monsoon during the cocktail hour ... but all-in-all I had a good time. It was night to get away from the kids, have a few drinks, enjoy each other's company, and to support a couple of friends as they tie the noose, ummm....I mean knot. The babies god parents, Josh and Nicole, were watching all three kids. They did a superb job. Matthew made a friend in line and the two of them ran in circles, hid behind plants, and made non-violent "no need to call the authorities" type of mischief. Mallory loved the Easter Bunny and kept pointing at him and blowing kisses to him while we were waiting in line. She couldn't stop hugging him when she sat on his lap. Kyle was intrigued, but unimpressed. I am not so sure the Easter Bunny appreciated Kyle's general disregard for his celebrity status. "E-Bun," as the Easter Bunny is known by his friends in the Bloods, went "old school" on Kyle and dropped him twice on the floor. Once Daddy caught Kyle, the second time Kyle was not so lucky and went "boom." Kyle's a tough kid and didn't mind so much that he got trapped in between the Perpetrating Hare and Matthew's seat, but Mommy exchanged a few unpleasant words with the Rascally Rabbit. I haven't had much time for posting, so here goes a quick update....

Matthew no longer attends Creative Beginings at the "Y". He is now at St. Mark's preschool, still through the "Y". He was going five half days and now he's down to two. It sounds backwards but he kept getting sick and most of the time he was only there two days out of the five anyway. We decided the move would be best for our family. Matthew is adjusting well to his new school. He likes his new teacher and we haven't had any complaints. He does miss Ms. Jenny, so we will have to visit her soon. Matthew is becoming quite the artist. I am always surprised at the stuff he draws. He is very creative. I guess he has his father's talent.

Kyle is WALKING! He is walking all over the place and even trying to run. He has become so independent and doesn't want to be held anymore. He just wants to be on the go. He is saying many words....the cutest one has to be when he says, "Barney".

Mallory is doing so well. She has made great strides. And eventhough she is not walking yet, I am no longer concerned about her physcial developement. She is such a comedian. She will kiss you so sweetly and then smack you and laugh. She is the definition of comedy and tradgey. She also is becoming a drama queen and faking her crying. She may be able to fool her daddy, but I don't fall for it! We are finally able to put her hair in PIG-TAILS, and it looks so adorable on her!

Both Mallory and Kyle LOVE books. They are constantly bringing us books to read to them. As soon as you finish one book her comes the other baby with another book, again and again. I hope their love of reading will be lifelong. The Huling Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01501100466552626681noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5569110583125344574.post-75595183713703862282007-12-21T19:05:00.000-08:002007-12-21T19:06:47.227-08:00Keep ReadingIt's been a while, so I posted a few new blogs!
